IGI recently submitted biodegradation data on our waxes for review by Dr. Ramani Narayan, (BPI'S Scientific Chair) and Dr. Carmen Scholz at the University of Alabama, Huntsville.

Based on this information, the reviewers concluded that several IGI waxes will meet biodegradation requirements. Hence, products manufactured with these waxes hold the potential to meet the requirements of ASTM D6868,"Standard Specification for Biodegradable Plastics Used as Coatings on Paper and Other Compostable Substrates"

The IGI waxes the BPI has approved are as follows:

 1. straight chain paraffin waxes with cCS0 chain length and a meltingpoint not to exceed 70 degrees C.
2. blends of (1) with palm and/or soy oil
3. blends of (1) or (2) with less than 1% of higher molecular weight

Additional information on biodegradation criteria for iGI waxes can be obtained by contacting Mr. Jamie Kalyta of IGI at 770-252-5632 or jkalyta@igiwax.com
